Looking for an Easy Cookie Recipe, that is Great for any Occasion. This Simple Sugar Cookies Make Excellent Cut-Outs or A Sweet Snack for Any Day. A Favorite Traditional Cooke Recipe that You'll Always Want to Keep On Hand.

Simple Sugar Cookies
(Great for Cut-Out Cookies)

While I love cooking and baking just about anything, my heart (and my cravings) will always belong to cookies. Something me and Cookie Monster will forever have in common. I just find the whole process of whipping up a batch of cookies comforting and then there is nothing better than taking break and enjoying one of these sweet treats with a favorite cup of coffee or tea. Plus, they are an easy recipe that you can do with kids and that they will always enjoy.  It’s a good way to introduce early cooking skills.

While the traditional chocolate chip is my favorite, a close second is just your everyday simple sugar cookies. This is a versatile recipe that can work really well for cut-out cookies or you can adapt in a number of other ways with frosting, sprinkles and such for gifts or special occasions.

Simple Sugar Cookies

Here’s what you’ll need:

3 Cups Flour
3/4 Cup Butter Softened
1 Cup Sugar
2 Eggs
1 Tsp Vanilla
1 Tsp Baking Soda
1 Tsp Baking Powder
1/2 Tsp Salt
1/2 Tsp Almond Extract (Optional)

Start by pre-heating the oven to 375 degrees. Using a mixer, in a medium bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add in the vanilla and almond extract and then beat in one egg at a time on medium speed until combined. Next mix in the baking soda and baking powder and one cup of flour using a wooden spoon or spatula. Add in the remaining flour one cup at a time, mixing together as you go.

On a flat surface (I used a large wooden cutting board) sprinkle with flour and then take half the dough and roll-out to about 1/4 -1/2 inch think using a rolling pin.  Using a circle cookie cutter or the rim of a glass, cut-out individual cookies and place them on a greased cookie sheet or one lined with parchment paper (parchment paper and I have become BEST friends. I use it for ALL my baking. I even found some super handy pre-cut sheets to fit my baking tray size on Amazon Parchment Paper Sheets). They won’t spread much, so you should be able to get about 9 to a tray.

Simple Sugar Cookies

If you want a more traditional sugar cookie, you can sprinkle a little sugar on top of each round before placing them in the oven. Bake the cookies at 375 for 8 -10 minutes. Let cool and then enjoy!

Ever wonder what to say when your child is feeling Ever wonder what to say when your child is feeling left out? A few years ago, I watched from my park bench as a young mother tried to console her sobbing daughter. “I’m sorry, honey. I don’t blame you for being upset.” “I don’t know why they won’t let me be in their group for the talent show. They just said they already had enough people and their routine was done and there wasn’t anything they could do about it. I told them I would make a new one up, but they wouldn’t do it.” I tried to focus on my kindle while occasionally looking for my kids to exit the school door. But as much as I tried not to eavesdrop, I had to admit I was interested to hear how the mom would handle this all-too-common situation of a child feeling left out. “Well, they’re probably just jealous of you honey, because you are such a good gymnast and they aren’t. They probably don’t want you in their group because you’ll show them up,” the mom stated matter-of-factly. “You should do a solo routine. Or maybe one with Chloe.” “You think?” the girl replied, her tears slowing down. “You think they’re just jealous of my tumbling?” “Totally.” Several minutes passed before my girls came out, but the interaction between the mother and daughter stuck with me for a lot longer. Maybe the girls were jealous, or maybe they honestly had their routine finished. To continue reading check the link in bio.
