CVS was okay

June 19, 2011

Last night, I got my coupon book organized and went to CVS a day early. One of the things that most people don’t know about CVS is that you can get Sunday’s prices on Saturday night if your store IS NOT a 24-hour store. I don’t know what time the registers actually switch over, but I have gone in twice between 8-9 PM and been able to get the next day’s deals a little early. It’s pretty awesome.

Speaking of awesome, CVS was just okay this week.  (Unlike Walgreens, which was so awful I had an urge to put on too much eyeliner and write bad poetry about it.)

Fun stuff this week at CVS

1) Hawaiian Tropic sun tan lotion and oil – spend $20, get $10 ECB back. There was a coupon for $1.00 off each in an old Sunday paper. Like paying $8 for 2. Nice.

2) Hershey’s Bliss candy… on sale for $5.99 with $5.99 ECB back. Free!

3) Pantene products: On sale $2 for 7, with $2 ECB back. Also, there was a $1.00 off coupon in last week’s paper. So it was like getting 2 for $3.

4) Colgate Total toothpaste… on sale for $2.79, $2 in ECB back, and there was a $1 off coupon in last week’s paper. Money maker!

5) Harvest Bars on sale for $0.99 each, and there was a B1G1 printable here. Not too bad, and I like to try new things.

Total cost of items:     $44.87

Less coupons and discounts:   -$17.70

OOP:   $27.17

ECB back:   -$20.00

Like paying $7.17 for all of that stuff! Holla!!

On their Facebook wall today, CVS announced that you can now register your ECB card to get more “cash back” when you buy certain items in the store. The program is called SavingStar (click here for more info) and you can select “e-coupons” onto your card on certain products.

The weird part? It doesn’t deduct the savings amount from your bill. Your bill stays the same. It just banks your savings into an account that you can later withdraw from – or donate to charity.

Not sure how I feel about that. I’d rather save BEFORE I spend.

When I “redeem” my first SavingStar coupon, I’ll let you know. Hopefully it won’t cause drama at the register if I have a “paper” coupon for the same item.
